It was Francis who founded the company Sabre. Stemming from a family working in the silversmith’s trade, he starts by creating “silver-plated” pieces for numerous prestigious brands. He quickly abandons “silver-plated” for the benefit of stainless steel, inescapable in tableware. He decides to establish his own firm which will be created on February 27th, 1993. Pascale Gelb will quickly join Francis Gelb. Their good vision of the market allows them to imagine a human-sized, reactive structure, which adapts closer to the desires of their first customers: “Parisian bohoes”! This duet gives birth to the first models: Vichy cutlery, “Toile de Jouy” cutlery and Baguette cutlery. These can be mixed, allowing customers to compose their own canteen cutlery.
Since the beginning, Pascale and Francis had intended to become known internationally. They had the opportunity to promote their brand in several lounges, like Frankfurt in February 1994 where they won a resounding success, which enabled Sabre to open up export markets. In August 1994, the New York GIFT SHOW allowed them to develop numerous exchanges with U.S. partners, always loyal. Thereafter, they become fans of Salon Maison & Objet Paris who over the years became the leading exhibition in the world and in the profession, as a result of this success, ranges of cutlery and plates will grow. Initially, a line of porcelain is created for the show Maison & Objet of September 2005.Then, a collection of textiles is presented at Maison & Objet in January 2008. Finally, a collection of engraved glassware was released in January 2009. Recently SABRE expands internationally by opening a store in Dubai. This shop, specialized tableware, reflecting the state of mind of a friendly and fun brand, participates in building a real relationship with customers.
